The Lakeside Sailing Club has been awarded a $2000 Giving4Grassroots (G4G) grant from the Australian Sports Foundation towards the installation of a floating jetty at Lakeside.
G4G is the Sports Foundation’s national grants program and twice-yearly funds initiatives and programs aimed at increasing participation in grassroots and community sport throughout Australia.
Sports Foundation chief executive Patrick Walker said this G4G round of grants aims to give every Australian the opportunity to be involved in sport regardless of age, gender, ability, religion, ethnicity or social and financial status.
“Sport provides a positive movement for social change and social inclusion,” Mr Walker said.
“Lakeside Sailing Club’s application stood out among the many grant applications we received and we look forward to more wheelchair-bound men and women taking up sailing and enjoying the freedom and friendship that the sport offers.”
In partnership with Sailability Victoria, the floating jetty is designed to enable wheelchair users to participate in sailing.
The jetty has now been successfully installed, complete with a hoist for the benefit of wheelchair sailors.
The jetty will be officially opened at the lake on Friday 10 November at 2pm.
