A family-friendly fund-raiser will support youth mental health while promoting physical activity.
Organised by local businesses My Time, Fitness for Wellbeing and South East Yoga and Wellbeing, the 10 July fund-raiser will see the promotion of positive mental health through fitness, games, yoga and healthy food.
At the same time, the event will be raising much-needed cash for youth mental health organisation Headspace.
Organiser Ebony Shalom from My Time, Fitness for Wellbeing said her work in the youth industry over the past 13 years had alerted her to the importance of physical activity.
“Not only does fitness enhance physical health, it also helps transform our mental states and in turn brings about transformations in our everyday lives,” Ms Shalom said.
“It grows an inner strength that overflows into our ability to cope.
“It helps build resilience and trust in one’s own ability to deal with things in a positive manner.”
This correlation between physical and mental health is why Ms Shalom chose to host the event and have Headspace as the fund-raiser’s recipient.
The event will feature 20 minute sessions of yoga, boxing, fitness circuits and games for the younger children to teach them different stress coping mechanisms.
Healthy snacks will also be on offer along with raffle prizes and everyone will take home a gift.
Ms Shalom said representatives of the organisation will also attend later in the morning to chat with participants.
The all-ages fund-raiser will be held on 10 July from 9am to noon at My Place youth facility.
Anyone who would like to participate can call Ebony on 0473 337 703 or Nic on 0428 578 009.
