Berwick students paid tribute to diggers past and present at the children’s ANZAC Day Service in Melbourne recently.
Students from St Michael’s and Berwick Chase Primary School boarded buses and headed to the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance on Friday 21 April.
The children’s service is an annual event organised by Melbourne Legacy as well as other legacy groups and clubs.
This year Berwick RSL and South East Legacy group selected St Michael’s and Berwick Chase Primary School to attend the service.
Berwick RSL sub branch Secretary Chris McKenna said both schools are shining lights in their efforts to raise funds for the RSL and Legacy by selling badges on ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.
“The children enjoyed the day immensely and appreciated the solemnity of the service and the excellent marching and drill work of the school cadet units present,” she said.
After the service the students visited the Galleries of Remembrance which are housed beneath the Shrine.
“We hope that these children came away from the service with a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by so many servicemen and women in all conflicts,” Ms McKenna said.
