A local farmer has had his five minutes of fame recently, appearing during prime time on Monday 6 March.
Gazette readers may have caught a glimpse of Rob Thompson “talking to the young fella from Broome,” while placing apples in the fresh produce section of a Coles supermarket during a segment created for Channel Seven’s My Kitchen Rules.
Rob said he felt very fortunate to be part of the show.
“It was a great experience filming and meeting the contestants in a live supermarket environment. It was great fun!” he said.
Coles General Manager of Fresh Produce Brad Gorman said Coles was pleased to nominate Rob to appear in My Kitchen Rules.
“This was an opportunity to showcase the fantastic produce from growers like the Thompson family and celebrate our local suppliers in front of a national audience through My Kitchen Rules.”
Mr Thompson, who is co-owner of Nine Mile Fresh in Tynong, has been supplying Coles supermarkets including Cardinia Lakes and Pakenham for the past 25 years.
Last year Nine Mile Fresh won the Community Champion of the Year Award at the national Coles Supplier Awards.
Asked whether he sees a television career in sight, Rob said: “Certainly not!” and that he will be sticking to what he knows best.
“I was definitely punching way above my weight and way, way out of my league,” Mr Thompson said.
