A stunning lantern made from 1000 hand-cut paper pieces is among the projects which have earned three Beaconhills College students VCE Season of Excellence awards.
Berwick campus student Ruby Lang received a top arts award for an enormous, white paper lantern based on the theme of ‘connection’ at the annual awards, which recognise the state’s most creative students.
A school spokesperson said Ruby spent six weeks painstakingly cutting the 1000 pieces of paper needed for the project.
Holly Neale, now a Year 12 student at the school, came second in the state for dance with a subject score of 49 out of 50, while fellow Berwick dance student Michala D’Elia placed in the top six.
Beaconsfield College Pakenham campus student Tom Algie was also commended in the Top Design’s exhibition for his ‘exoskeleton’ he built in systems engineering.
Holly will perform in Top Class at the Melbourne Recital Centre in Southbank on 23 February, while the other students’ works will be on display at the National Gallery Victoria Australia’s Ian Potter Centre from 24 March to 16 July (Top Arts) and at the Melbourne Museum from 17 March to 16 July (Top Design).
The school congratulated the students on their success.
