POLICE have urged the public to steer clear of a stolen car sighted in the Pakenham area, following reports of gunfire from the car.
The black 2012 VW Amarok utility with a white tub was stolen from a Clyde North home following an aggravated burglary in the early hours of Wednesday 21 September.
The Amarok utility had been sighted at Pakenham 15 minutes after shots were reportedly fired from the vehicle as it travelled down the Monash Freeway in Hallam.
About 6pm on Sunday 25 September, the stolen vehicle was sighted in Montclaire Court, Pakenham.
It was seen soon afterwards spotted at the Cardinia Club carpark, but had taken off before police could intercept the vehicle.
Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Sergeant Darren Hedge is following up reports that multiple shots were fired from the car as it travelled toward Pakenham.
Witnesses reported shots were fired around 5.45pm on the Monash Freeway in Hallam.
“Don’t approach the vehicle if people are inside. There are possible firearms inside,” Det Sgt Hedge said.
Southern Metro Region Crime Team detectives are investigating the theft of the car in addition to another at the Clyde North home.
Investigators have been told a 27-year-old woman was woken in her Ryndhurst Street home about 1.30am on Wednesday 21 September by the sound of car engines.
When she went outside to investigate, she saw the family’s red BMW sedan and Amarok utility being reversed out of their driveway.
The BMW has since been recovered.
It was located about 11.30pm on Thursday 22 September on Booth Crescent, Dandenong North.
Investigators have also been told that three other vehicles, one possibly a silver Holden utility similar to a VE model, were seen speeding away from the home after the burglary.
