No bail for son in domestic violence case

A MAN has been refused bail and rendered homeless after allegedly committing domestic violence at the homes of his separated mother and father.
The 24-year-old roof tiler had been arrested at his Pakenham Upper dad’s home on 8 August after an argument over him leaving a gate open, which allowed three horses to wander onto the road.
He had been allegedly verbally abusing and approaching his father with clenched fists, Dandenong Magistrates’ Court was told on the same day.
The accused had been staying in a caravan in Narre Warren prior to moving in with his dad, who has subsequently taken out a family violence safety notice, banning the man from entering the house.
The man was on a community corrections order, had three outstanding arrest warrants, the court was told.
The man, who represented himself, told the court he was “trying to defend” himself against his father, though he conceded he’d acted a “goose” at his mother’s place in Frankston last year.
In that incident, the man had allegedly kicked in his mother’s car and thrown chairs through her lounge room windows, the court was told.
The accused admitted he had a heavy cannabis addiction, but had been “clean” from methamphetamines for at least the past weekend.
“The past month I’ve been trying hard to give up the meth, but as you all know it’s hard to get off that stuff.
“This weekend was my first clean weekend for months. I was pretty proud of myself.”
He said he could perhaps find alternative accommodation at his employer’s home.
Magistrate Gerard Bryant told the man he’d have to “come back with something more concrete” to be released on bail.
He adjourned the matter until 22 August for an assessment for CREDIT bail, including drug counselling.
