On guard to save bus shelter

Protesters standing guard at the bus shelter on Thursday morning.

A POP up protest in Emerald continues this morning as protesters fear the Cardinia Council is ready to knock down its community notice bus stop.
Protester Naomi said a council engineer had been to inspect the shelter on Wednesday after a report said it should be demolished because structural problems made it unsafe.
“He said that if the council had sent him down then they were planning to demolish it soon,” she said.
Opponents are not convinced that the shelter is unsafe and say it has become a focal point for the town.
Over the past 20 years the shelter has grown to become an unofficial community notice board and, more recently, a protest site for the Let Them Stay pro-refugee campaign.
