A PAKENHAM teen hit by an oncoming train over the weekend is still in a critical condition.
Police said the train driver spotted the 18-year-old male walking between the tracks about 500 metres east of Officer train station about 1.45am on Sunday 15 May.
The driver immediately hit the emergency brakes, but the fast-thinking reaction did not spare the teen.
Police said he was flung from the tracks as a result of the impact.
He was located unconscious but breathing by a protective service officer (PSO) who managed to get to the boy just before paramedics arrived.
He was airlifted to The Alfred hospital with serious injuries, including suspected head injuries.
It is thought the 18-year-old is still in a critical condition.
The victim’s mother reported on social media: “It doesn’t look like they will try to wake him up today he’s still in critical condition and we have a long road ahead of us.”
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under police investigation.
