UPPER Beaconsfield Fire Brigade will host a movie screening on Saturday 9 April to express its gratitude for the community’s ongoing support.
With no donations sought for entry, the event hopes to serve as a direct ‘thank you’ to residents for providing funds over the years that have enabled the brigade to acquire sufficient equipment to safely protect the community in times of need.
Upper Beaconsfield community safety co-ordinator Emma Vulin said it would be a family friendly event.
“We’ll have more than 50 firefighters, with trucks for kids to play on and explore,” she said.
“Our winter mascot Beepa will also be around to remind people about changing their smoke alarm batteries.
“We’re often asking for fund-raising and it’s not often we get the opportunity to give back to the community that has provided us with ongoing support for a long time, aside from our service itself.”
Ms Vulin said that of the brigade’s four trucks, three were funded by the community.
“While the CFA provide us with one truck, we highly depend on fundraising dollars for the everyday maintenance of equipment and for purchasing more trucks to better respond to major incidents and those happening simultaneously.
“It also allows us to buy newer equipment to better protect our volunteers.”
Attendees have been asked to arrive at 5pm for a 6pm start. The mayor will deliver a speech prior to the movie.
Free popcorn will be provided to the first 1000 people. The film Inside Out will screen at 6pm on 9 April at Holm Park Reserve, Beaconsfield.
