EMERALD Lions members have kindly sponsored the local SES unit’s extra communications system.
BART is a web based system which the local unit utilises to share information about availability of
crews and event directions.
This system has been on a free trial for the past two years but has now become a paid-for service.
It doesn’t replace the pager system used by the emergency services but is a great supplement, Emerald Unit Controller Ben Owen said.
“BART makes communication between members instantaneous rather than relying on telephone
calls.
“The system uses smartphone technology to provide the service,” Mr Owen said.
The Lions have previously helped out the Emerald unit by raising funds for its four-wheel-drive ute.
