CARDINIA Shire’s most iconic historic site dedicated to remembering lives sacrificed at war may be forced into closure under council orders issued during the Anzac centenary year.
The Light Horse and Field Artillery Museum in Nar Nar Goon, a treasure trove of local war memorabilia and stories, was issued with closure orders on 30 November by Cardinia Shire Council.
Museum operator Bernie Dingle said the decision to close the historic site insulted the memory of all the brave servicemen and women who sacrificed their life for the country.
“It’s a pretty sad story if ends like this. We are just trying to keep our military history alive and educate the young ones so it’s not forgotten,” he said.
“This couldn’t have happened at a worse time.
