IT’S already been a hugely successful year for Tony Fitzgerald but last week the Outlook CEO added another accolade to his name.
On Thursday 10 December, Mr Fitzgerald travelled to Sydney to be recognised as one of five finalists in the Tony Fitzgerald Memorial Community Award, part of the annual Australian Human Rights Awards.
Mr Fitzgerald shares his name with the award purely by coincidence – it was named after a former Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Minister.
The awards acknowledge individuals who strive for a fairer and more equal society for all citizens.
As the CEO of social enterprise and not-for-profit Outlook, Mr Fitzgerald was nominated for his work in supporting the human rights of vulnerable and disadvantaged residents of the local community.
The awards were presented by Gillian Triggs, 2015 Woman of the Year and president of the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Mr Fitzgerald congratulated the winner of the award, Ms Ludo McFerran, and acknowledged his colleagues, who share his vision in advancing human rights.
“To bring about change and social justice you need absolutely committed people around you who share your values, passion and commitment,” he said.
“For me, particularly at Outlook, I am fortunate to be surrounded by people who, at all times, put aside their ego and are totally cause driven.”
Mr Fitzgerald recently took the oath to become a White Ribbon Ambassador which recognises him as a man who speaks out against men’s violence against women.
