THE clouds parted on the ninth fairway for Col Sykes on Saturday, allowing him to nail his first ace… Col is now only two behind his son Shane!
It was a three-way tie this week for score of the week with 43 points the score required – last week Fabian Stranges had a 43 on Saturday to finish runner-up but this week his 43 on Thursday was good enough to put him into a three-way tie with John Kneebone who also had his 43 on Thursday and Richard Piening who had 43 on Sunday.
Nearest the pin for the week after Col’s ace on Saturday was Les Foreman’s shot at the 13th on Sunday that finished 43cms away, making 43 the number for the week. Next best was Shirley Atchison on 60cms on the 13th on Saturday, with John Kneebone 78cms away on the same hole on Tuesday.
Thursday’s green Jacket came down to a count-back between John and Fabian, with John claiming the prize. Other notable efforts during the last week were Brendon Leane’s +6 to claim A Grade and Francis Teacey’s +5 to claim C Grade, both on Saturday.
Ed Brown (41) and Ray Simpson (40) both had a good Sunday but were outdone by Richard Piening, while Les Foreman was at his best on Tuesday winning B-Grade Olds and Bolds competition with 40.
Jason Deed had +4 on Saturday to claim B Grade which also put him through to the final-eight of the singles knockout. Ed Nicolette (Jnr) also impressed on Saturday returning a +5 playing off two – that’s 66 off the stick!
Reidy won the nearest the pin on the fourth hole on Saturday for the second week in a row, and Denis Barrot maintained the recent run of ‘Barrot’ good form winning the Olds and Bolds’ A Grade on Tuesday, after winning the overall competition the previous Tuesday. His win included nearest the pin on the ninth hole as well.
The only other double during the week came from John Kneebone whose green jacket win included the nearest the pin on the 13th hole – this gave John the unique double of the Tuesday/Thursday Pro Pin – John’s his Pro Shop account is looking a lot healthier now.
Julie Percival led the way for the ladies this week with a 37 on Saturday and Shirley Atchison took out Saturday’s highly sought after Pro Pin on the 13th hitting it to 60cms.
