PAKENHAM’S Inner Wheel and Rotary Club members had an “experience of a lifetime” during their 15-day trip in India earlier this year.
And they came together recently to remember their amazing February trip.
After months of planning, 18 members took the plunge and flew to India where they visited a number of places including Mumbai, Pune and Goa.
The group took a nine hour bus trip between Pune and Goa, an experience which enabled them to see the first-hand contrasts between different regions of India.
Both clubs visited a small orphanage and school for Aids affected children in Pune, donating funds generated from both clubs and Berwick Secondary College.
“A visit to these places demonstrated the fabulous work that is being done and the capacity of a small donation to make a huge difference to the individual students,” a spokesperson for the Inner Wheel Club said.
Both clubs also visited the Jaipur Foot factory.
The Inner Wheel Club was a previous supporter of the organisation and the trip to the artificial limb manufacturer was able to establish new support from the Rotary Club of Pakenham which will now donate profits from an upcoming dance to support the cause.
On Thursday 4 June and back on home soil, a joint meeting between the two clubs allowed the opportunity to reminisce on their trip to India.
The women dressed in brightly coloured saris while the men wore turbans during the event which played Bollywood music in the background.
Proceeds of the night were donated to motor neuron research.
