Tee off on an exceptional course

GARFIELD GOLF

AS WE officially enter winter the Garfield course is in outstanding condition with all fairways and greens of an exceptional playability standard. If it has been some time since your last visited Garfield Golf Club, now is the time to get out there and have a hit.
This week’s main event was a guest aggregate stableford event which was contested by some 18 pairs whilst 30 teams without a guest competed for the member’s prize. Best Guest pair in were Louis Milner and D. Hartley who scored a handicap adjusted 67 to win on a count-back from Grant McKay and Troy Fitzsimmons. The best member team was Steve Humphreys and Steve Wallace who finished with 73 to defeat Trevor Franklin and John Gay on 72.
The run of misfortunate and somewhat comical events, depending on your view of life, have unfortunately continued this week. On top of Lawrie Begg’s ride on going for a swim on the ninth tee and the Chap who forgot his shoe last week, this week a rogue golf cart has run over club captain Mick Neylan. Driven by Mick’s ex-friend Bill Low whilst playing on Thursday, a volunteer team was required to come to the rescue. Mick is recovering while Bill must now undergo an induction course on safe cart use. A forensic examination of the cart is currently being conducted. The message here is; take care when using golf carts.
All those pairs scoring 67 or better on Saturday received balls down the line.
The course was closed to social groups on Sunday as the club teams did battle for their respective pennant grades.
