CARDINIA WATERS BOWLS

IT WAS a bad week for the Cardinia Waters’ Pennant teams with only one win from four matches. The winning team was the Saturday Division 8 side, who travelled to Hampton Park and won 39 shots to 29.
The home team were short of players and asked for two players from Cardinia Waters Bowls Club to be allowed to play for them. Marie Stephenson and Brad Potter played for the opposition, and played well, which should nearly get them a game next week.
Stuart Tokely skipping for John Carr, John Cazaly and Lynn Cameron, struggled early but finished well to win 24 to 12. Skipper Dennis Smith had Tom Davie, Jim McCallum and Brian Byrne and they had a close one all day, they led on the 19th end but couldn’t hold on eventually losing 15 to 17.
The Saturday Division-3 team had a close game and a chance of winning against Cranbourne right up to the final end but ultimately went down 56 to 64 in the cold, damp conditions. John Van Vugt skipped for Gunter Baumbach, Pat Hutchinson and Wendy Titcombe and led all day to win 27 to 11. The other winner was Jim Smith with Simon Koning, Graeme Windley and Lindsay Cameron who were down early but a five got them going and they went on to win 24 to 17.
There was no ‘comeback’ from David Blake this week, he had Donny Gibson, Graeme Taylor and Bill Hite and they struggled all day losing 11 to 23. Skipper John Hutchinson with Mick Knight, Len Judge and David Smith had a disappointing match also, and apart from a four-end surge from the 14th to the 17th, fell away to lose 13 to 30.
The Midweek Division-1 side were at home to Mulgrave Country Club and lost a close one, 56 to 64. David Blake continued his good form and with Simon Koning, Graeme Taylor and Bill Hite got away to a good start and were strong all day winning 25 to 14. Skipper Jim Smith with Val Moore, John Hutchinson and David Smith started well but lost a seven on the 4th end and trailed from then on to lose 14 to 20. John Van Vugt team of Sandra Wilde, Pat Hutchinson and Wendy Titcombe a started poorly but got in front on the ninth end only to fade again and lose 17 to 30. The Division 2 side went to Dandenong RSL and lost by three shots, 61 to 64. Jim Boucher was the winning skipper and with Gunter Baumbach, Brian Byrne and Lynn Cameron were level mid game but finished well enough to win 20 to 19. Stuart Tokely skipped for Mick Knight, Dennis Patmore and Cliff Heath and had a close battle all day. A five got them in front on the 18th end but they lost the final three to lose 23 to 25. Skipper Lindsay Cameron had John Dale and Noel and Jenny Edmonds, they were badly down early but fought back to only just fail, losing 18 to 20.
