DISABILITY service provider Outlook will recognise the pricless contributions of its many volunteers by holding a special thank you lunch at a local restaurant this Friday to mark International Volunteer Day.
Outlook volunteer co-ordinator Sarah Kelly, who manages the efforts of about 75 volunteers, said they brought many skills to the table.
“Volunteers bring expertise to a huge variety of tasks including office work, disability support, kitchen assistance, photography, plant expertise in the Outlook nursery and even professional counselling,” she said.
“The benefits of volunteering are significant in terms of social connection, inclusion, skill development, health, wellbeing and a feeling of self-worth.”
She is currently looking for volunteers who are interested in yoga, community access or just meeting new people.
One of those volunteers is Lyn Clemence, a professional chef, who works with three volunteer assistants to collect food – largely through donations – and preparing menus.
“It’s very rewarding,” she said.
“They really enjoy what you make and they smile.”
“They (the other volunteers) are absolutely wonderful, I would work with those guys anytime, they are really great workers.”
