FOR Pakenham woman Alison Goodall, the benefits of her craft group are twofold.
After recently moving to the area, starting up her own group gave her the chance to meet new people, while pursuing her life-long passion of craft.
The Lakeside Lutheran College staff member runs the Casey-Cardinia Craft Circle, which meets once a month for a laugh and some craft too.
“It’s time to hang out and relax,” Ms Goodall said.
The mother of two said the group was more for females, each of whom brought their own different type of creativity to the group.
While some choose to “selfish sew” others create masterpieces which they donate to charity.
From knitting, to scrapbooking and embroidery, Ms Goodall said: “we end up talking most of the time.”
The group was started in June and already has around 45 members.
“We have a cuppa and a yarn,” Ms Goodall said.
The group’s creator, who said she had always loved craft, added that it was a good way to take a break from everyday life.
“It’s forced ‘me’ time,” she said.
“You get to zone out for a while and talk to adults.”
Ms Goodall said she had loved craft since she was a child and hoped it would run through the generations.
“I’ve always done all sorts of craft,” she said.
“My mother is also very crafty, so I got it from her.”
“She sewed all our clothes.”
Ms Goodall said she was happy to see the gene of creativity had also overcome her 12-year-old, Ebony.
“She has taken it on too and loves hand stitching,” she said.
“It’s good for her to know that craft isn’t just for older people.”
The group meets one Sunday each month, and anyone can come along for just $5 a head.
Ms Goodall said her craft crew had also created a good social media presence, further emphasising the modern slant of the group.
