Speak up, says council

Cardinia Shire mayor Graeme Moore is encouraging residents to have a say about local issues at an upcoming community forum.
The forum will kickstart a campaign that will involve 10 councils on Melbourne’s fringe or ‘interface’, including Cardinia Shire Council, collectively advocating to the Victorian Government for a better deal for the outer suburbs in the lead-up to the state election.
Cardinia Shire and Casey Council are partnering together to host the forum which is designed to ensure local residents are top of mind for our state politicians come the November poll.
Statistics show that people in the outer suburbs are less healthy, less educated, travel further for work and have more domestic violence cases than people who live in other parts of Melbourne.
“Cardinia Shire is a great place to live but to make it the best it can be we need the support of the state and federal governments,” Cr Moore said.
“We want residents to attend this meeting to tell us what their priorities and concerns are in the lead-up to this year’s state election.
“This information will help us to advocate on behalf of residents to make Cardinia Shire even better.”
Council wants to know what issues most affect the shire’s residents including:
– Public transport;
– Road access;
– Community infrastructure;
– Fragile families;
– Health services;
– Youth services;
– Support for the aged population;
– Education; and
– Green wedges.
A community meeting will be held at 6.30pm on Monday 7 July at City of Casey Council Chambers, Magid Drive, Narre Warren.
