Stand up for comedy

Melbourne International Comedy Festival
Dave Hughes and David O’Doherty

COMEDY legend Dave Hughes is back on the festival circuit this year with less on his plate and more hilarious stories about his wife and kids.
The Warrnambool native stepped back from Nova breakfast commitments and The Project appearances last year to refocus himself as a stand-up comedian.
The show this year at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival was a sell-out and it was literally laugh out loud.
Reviewers and comedian big-wigs always encourage festival goers to see the rising stars on the comedy circuit but sometimes it’s good to see an old-favourite.
Part of the hilarity is that Hughesy tends to lose himself during the show and he loves to heckle the late comers, which always adds to the experience.
Hughesy’s charm is that his jokes are relatable, easy and guaranteed to get a laugh.
His cynicism and anger also never gets old.
The best part of the MICF is that it’s a relatively cheap night out.
As one of the headliners and bigger names, a ticket for an hour of Hughesy humour will set you back about $40 while some of the lesser known comedians are up for grabs for about $25.
The festival is one of the best things Melbourne has to offer.
Each year, this reviewer tries to go to someone different and new as well as supporting the best in the business including Hughesy and Irish comedian David O’Doherty.
The MICF is over for another year but come next April, get on board.
