Ooh, that’s not weird!

Adventure Time
Cartoon Network and GO!
I’ll let you all in on the big secret.
This show is weird.
But weird doesn’t have to be bad. Rainbows are weird – floating dazzling colours in an arc? Unicorns are weird – a horse with a horn? Huh? Combine the two and you get a weird creature – a Rainicorn.
This is how the utterly strange Land of Ooo in which Finn, the last remaining human, and Jake, a magical dog, seems to operate and the inhabitants love it as they go on their eponymous adventure times.
Most importantly, Adventure Time encourages you to embrace your own type of weird and appreciate that’s a good thing.
The show is rating as highly as ever on Cartoon Network and now that season three has just dropped on Australian shelves there’s even more adventuring to watch.
Adventure Time isn’t afraid to watch its characters evolve and develop over time – Finn grapples with growing up and the daggers of unrequited love – but it is still an irreverent romp of chaos as Jake battles a bottle sized cat assassin, while the Ice King is forced to hire a hitman to stop a hitman he hired to only hit Finn and Jake on the face and not kill them.
The first appearance of Fionna and Cake, the opposite versions of Finn and Jake, show the series is always keen to get new female characters and give them a starring and most assuredly “kick butt” role – a rarity in the cartoon world.
It remains at the forefront of the perceived “children’s cartoon” but if there is any shred of immaturity, childishness or whimsy left in those cold, decrepit shells you call “adult bodies”, you’ll shut your gob and enjoy.
Since I’m mostly comprised of all the above, I am enamoured with this series and so should you.
For those who have missed the show – or for the more passionate fans – season three is now available as a download, Blu-Ray or DVD boxset.
