Historical irrelevance

I have watched with interest, being an earlier resident of Berwick, the ongoing controversy about the location of a statue with no relevance to the history of Berwick on the public reserve in the main street.
Understandably, residents have persistently questioned their council about this, yet it seems no one can give coherent justification for the City of Casey’s determination to place the statue on the reserve.
The reason could be as simple as this.
Those responsible, having made certain agreements and financial allocations for the project, are now too embarrassed to admit they have made a such a huge mistake.
This happens at all government levels.
