Jack’s good news

Jack Gilchrist, 11, is a mini media mogul in the making.
About four months ago, he started a Lang Lang fan page on social networking site Facebook.
Since then he has reported the latest news and gossip about town to the page, which has nearly 400 followers.
Jack, a Grade 6 student at Lang Lang Primary School, has even created a directory of local businesses, linking phone numbers and offering free advertising space.
“I update it just when I think it needs something, or if anything happens around town,” he said. “I just like Lang Lang, it’s friendly and there are not many nasty people around.”
It’s clear that Jack has a passion Lang Lang which he describes as ‘not a town, but a community’. “It is filled with hard-working, well-mannered people, who will always give you a hand with whatever is needed. I think all the locals do a great job with Lang Lang! Good job, guys!” he wrote.
It is pretty easy for Jack to keep on top of town gossip – he rides across town on his bike every day and his mum, Di Clover, works at the Lang Lang Hotel.
So far Jack has posted information on a burglary, hard-rubbish collections and cub scouts returning to Lang Lang.
But despite being more media-savvy than most of his peers, Jack doesn’t think he’ll pursue a career in the field.
“I thought being a journalist would be fun at one stage, but I’m too tempted by cars – I want to be a mechanic,” he said.
