THE Lang Lang Primary School has welcomed a new member from the United States of America to its school community.
Kristin Lathrop from Whitewater University, Wisconsin, USA, is completing a six-week teaching internship at the small school of 150 students.
Since Ms Lathrop started in February, she has been involved in a number of classroom activities including lesson planning and has taken maths, reading and writing classes.
Ms Lathrop said she decided to come to Lang Lang for the experience.
“I think Australia has a lot to offer in its education system,” she said.
“It could only benefit me and give me a better understanding about teaching.
“So far I have learnt a different way of teaching, different learning styles and classroom management skills.”
Ms Lathrop said she has spent time in every classroom, talking to the students about America.
“I have set up a pen pal program with Grade 3 and 4 students from Lang Lang with a class I have in the States,” she said.
Ms Lathrop said both the Lang Lang school and the local community had made her feel welcome.
“I’ve had the opportunity to stay with five great families,” she said.
“It’s been good to learn about their daily routines, beliefs and values.”
Ms Lathrop will fly back to America on 27 March.
