THE doors have officially opened on the $4.7 million redeveloped Kooweerup Regional Health Service.
Health Minister Daniel Andrews officially opened the state-of-the-art facility on Friday, which will provide a range of acute medical and residential aged care, and palliative care and respite services, making it a true multi-purpose health service for local families.
“The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to give Victorians a better health system, by building new hospitals and health services and hiring more doctors and nurses,” Mr Andrews said.
“The refurbished Kooweerup Regional Health Service now offers a wide range of medical and health services for the growing local community. This redeveloped facility is purpose-built to house these locally focused services and to allow for further expansion into the future.”
Mr Andrews said the improved health service had employed a community development worker, health promotion workers, a Palliative Care Nurse, and was also recruiting to expand allied health services in physiotherapy and occupational therapy – all services that either weren’t previously available locally, or available only in limited ways.
Member for Eastern Victoria Johan Scheffer said the refurbished Kooweerup Regional Health Service offered a tremendous boost for the local community.
“This vital redevelopment culminates many years of hard but very worthwhile work to re-orient this health service, which included strong engagement with the community,” he said.
“The result is a multi-purpose facility with a wide range of health service focused on the needs of this community.”
Kooweerup Regional Health continues to provide a range of quality bed based services, including residential aged care, acute medical services, palliative care and respite services.
