Labor candidate to ‘go for it’

LABOR candidate for McMillan Christine Maxfield says her “go for it” attitude has her in good stead for the upcoming election.
While there has been no official date set, Ms Maxfield is tipping that Australia will go to the polls during August.
After spending 25 years in Drouin, Ms Maxfield said she is “almost one of the locals” and that’s why she knows exactly what her constituents want.
The mother of three, who currently works as a WorkCover officer for the Shop Assistants Union and Heritage Officer for the Australian Labor Party, said her patience and determination will allow her to get as much money from working with the State Government for the area as possible.
“My goals for the electorate are to provide better community lifestyle, access to better health and encouraging rural students to aim high and bringing a cinema to Pakenham, just to name a few,” she said.
Ms Maxfield’s husband Ian was the State Labor MP for Narracan when the Liberals were in power so she is no stranger to the rough and tumble of politics.
“I’ve been involved in politics since I was 16 – I see it as a way to make change without physical violence, that one individual can make a change.”
The mother of three has weighed into comments made by her opposition in the electorate, Russell Broadbent saying it wasn’t his place to speak out about State Minister for Community Development Lily D’Ambrosio opening the Bunyip Auditorim.
“I think it’s a bit short sighted to be playing politics when it should be about the community,” she said.
