The owner of the Berwick Greenery was chosen as the tour leader of the Botanical Tour of Switzerland and Northern Italy. John Grundy was a well-known local and horticulturalist and was chosen by Majestic International Travel Services. “I was delighted when the agency director, Jeanette Adams, told me that I had been chosen as the guide,” John said. “It’s a great honour for me. The aim of the tour is to give travellers the opportunity to visit a number of overseas gardens and garden festivals.” As tour guide, John gave accurate and interesting information. His career has included regular gardening segments on Channel 10’s ‘Good Morning Melbourne’ and Nine’s ‘In Melbourne Today’.

20 years to 2002

Pakenham Secondary College’s Adam Peterkin recently returned from the Tamworth Music Festival. Adam performed in front of a crowd of more than 15,000 people. His band, Terra Australis, won the prestigious Battle of Bushbands title against a field of established bands. Adam has been playing the guitar since he was three-years-old, and always enjoys performing. “I don’t get nervous playing in front of big crowds – I prefer it to playing in front of people that I know. Even though there were 15,000 people there, it was just another gig,” he said. Although Adam enjoys bush music, it is not his preferred genre. “I am into extremely heavy music like Marilyn Manson. In my opinion, the heavier the music is, the better.”

10 years to 2012

Officer teen Damian Meredith appeared on Young Talent Time as the only individual dancer in the competition. “I choreographed three dances and told them what style it was in and the music and they chose what I would perform,” he said. On the show, Damian performed a lyrical contemporary dance that he choreographed. Damian and his mum, Rose, had to race up to Sydney for filming after a successful audition in September 2011. Damian balanced his backflips, juggling and aerial work with year 11 studies at the Victorian College of the Arts but he would not have it any other way and was grateful for the opportunity to perform. “It was really fun, really awesome,” he said. Everyone on the show is so nice. It’s really family oriented and friendly.”
