Firm market restricts buyers

There were approximately 275 export and 250 young cattle penned representing a decrease of almost 500 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present but not all were able to operate fully in a generally firm market. Quality was mixed with a wide variation on offer and many lacking finish.
The limited selection of vealers suited to butchers sold a little dearer.
Most yearling trade cattle sold to firm demand with the better shaped heifers cheaper in places. Feeder steers were a few cents easier and grown steers and bullocks sold firm on most sales.
Heavy weight grown heifers sold up to 15 cents dearer.
Vealers to butchers sold from 330 cents to 360 cents, yearling trade steers made between 320 cents and 356 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 288 cents and 344 cents, feeder steers made from 302 cents to 340 cents, grown steers sold from 290 cents to 312 cents, bullocks made between 295 cents and 308 cents.
In the limited selection of manufacturing steers the Friesians sold between 250 cents and 266 cents with the crossbred portion between 260 cents and 300 cents. Heavy weight grown heifers made from 282 cents to 315 cents.
The draw for the week commencing Monday 10 July is: 1 Alex Scott and Staff; 2 Nathan Gibbon Livestock; 3 Rodwells; 4 Elders; 5 Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts; 6 S.E.J.; 7 Landmark.
The next Store Sale is on Thursday 13 July at 10am.
