Koowee’s fragile finals chance

By Ken Moore
KOOWEERUP’S finals prospects took a big hit on Saturday after a 52-point loss to Nyora.
The Queen’s Birthday weekend match was the second of four catch-up games in the EDFL this season, due to the introduction of Garfield to the competition which now has the uneven number of 15 teams.
The Saints controlled play after quarter-time and received tremendous midfield drive from Aiden Cumberland, Corrie Wilson, Jason McLoy and ruckman Clint Wilson, while Glen Tempany finished off the good work up field scoring six goals.
The Demons were listless for a good part of the game and, aside from half back Ryan Wilby, Jason Williams, who kicked three goals, ruckman Ryan Kitchen and talented youngster Jack Carson, who did a good job to curtail Saint playmaker Fiatupu To Too, it was hard to find effective players in the blue and red jumpers.
Nyora now sits three games outside of the top six, but having played all top six sides and with its next six games all winnable against teams outside of the top six, their finals chances cannot be dismissed.
