The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is inviting expressions of interest from community members who would like to play a key role in managing and caring for a number of public reserves along the Gippsland coastline.

Eight coastal committees of management across Gippsland are due for renewal in November including in Lang Lang. Other areas include Loch Sport, Port Franklin, Shallow Inlet, Grantville and district, Sandy Point, Walkerville and Corinella.

DELWP’s land and built environment programs regional manager Carole Macmillan says the positions provide an “exciting opportunity” for suitably qualified and experienced community members to contribute high level advice on the delivery of coastal management and infrastructure across Gippsland’s coastal reserves.

“Coastal committees play an integral role in protecting and enhancing our magnificent coastline on behalf of the community,” she said.

“They also provide an enriching and rewarding experience for members and I would encourage anyone with a passion for preserving our beautiful coastal areas to apply for one of these positions.”

The key skills and attributes sought from applicants include an interest and enthusiasm in making a positive contribution to the committee, environmental and coastal biodiversity conservation, Indigenous values and cultural heritage, facilities and project management, business and financial management, community engagement and leadership.

Successful applicants will commence roles in November for a three-year term.

Women, young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people living with a disability and people from culturally diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Expression of interest forms are available by contacting the Traralgon DELWP Office on (03) 5172 2111 or email traralgon.propertyservices@delwp.vic.gov.au.
