A Pakenham martial arts team has more than mixed it with the best on the big stage, finishing with an eight-medal haul at the recent Machado Jiu Jitsu Australian Championships in Melbourne.

Students from Concept Jiu Jitsu and MMA shone under the bright lights – proving themselves to be the real deal.

Head instructor Veronica Lombard explained just how hard they trained for the competition, and just how well they competed.

“Not everyone won a medal but everyone did their best and contributed to the team on the day,” she said.

“It’s great to do well at competition (level), but most of our students train for other reasons – often to build their confidence, increase their fitness, or to develop self-defence skills that may come in handy.”

The dedicated male and female instructors at Concept Jiu Jitsu ensure their students are taught the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a safe, family-friendly environment. While Concept has developed a number of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champions, its main goal is to teach the martial art to people in the local community including Pakenham, Officer, Beaconsfield, and Berwick.

The sport is suitable for men, women and children of all ages, and for people of all fitness levels and body types.
