Warriors downed by Eagles

The Pakenham Warriors Division 2 Men’s side went down in a battle for fourth position to the Craigieburn Eagles, 83-94, in Big V basketball action on the weekend.

The Warriors got great purchase from all players with four of their starters scoring over 10 points.

But on the defensive end the Warriors were unable to stop Eagle Damon Smith, who had a field day on the floor – recording 45 points and 18 rebounds.

The Division 2 Women, meanwhile, pulled apart Coburg in an imposing 107-64 victory.

Everyone on the Warriors’ roster scored but it was Jacinta Maxwell who dominated with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting at an efficient 57 per cent from the field.

The Warriors will go into their first playoff game this weekend against the Mornington Breakers.

Pakenham’s Youth League Men’s side registered a strong victory over Keysborough, 109-75.

The Warriors were just more influential all over the court with six players putting up double-figure points.

Josh Norton recorded a double-double with 15-points and 10 rebounds in his side’s impressive win, while Ben Tomkins provided resistance for the Cougars with 19 points and nine rebounds.

The following day the Warriors side couldn’t make it two from two when they took on Craigieburn, going down 93-96.

Ned Weideman (16 points, 11 assists and 12 rebounds) took control for the Warriors with a stirring triple-double in his side’s defeat.

And the Warriors Youth League Women’s side won 66-60 in an ugly affair against Coburg at home on Saturday in their final match of the season.

Neither side shot above 34 per cent from two-point range, but the Warriors were able to get the job done off the back of Alahna Arnason’s impressive double-double, recording 17 points and 14 rebounds in her side’s second win in as many weeks.
