STATE LEAGUE 1 – SOUTH/EAST
Doveton SC began life in the top-tier of state league soccer with a barnstorming 2-0 victory over St Kilda SC at Waratah Reserve on Saturday afternoon.
The Doves got on the board in the 38th minute with a strike from Simon Mur, before Wayne Gordon found the back of the net just after the half-time break to seal the points.
Casey Comets, meanwhile, also started the year off brightly by knocking off Beaumaris SC 1-2 at Beaumaris Secondary.
The Comets faced a stern challenge after going in to half time 1-1, but found the match winning point in the second half in what will fill them with supreme confidence.
STATE LEAGUE 2 – SOUTH/EAST
Berwick City SC looms as a team to watch this season after defeating Doncaster 0-2 at Anderson Park to begin their 2019 campaign.
City had complete control over the contest, leading 0-1 at half time before adding to the scoreboard in the second half in a dominant performance.
Skipper James Neighbour and Senahid Tokalic were the goal scorers for City, who will now take on Peninsula Strikers at Centenary Park this Saturday.
