REVIEW – ROUND 6 (DAY TWO)

Cardinia was well and truly in the box seat after day one against Officer, but things quickly turned around on day two.

Having restricted the Bullants to 147, the Bulls batsmen had a very achievable run chase on their hands, but Officer’s Leigh Boyle (7/65) had other ideas.

Boyle took care of the top order as the Bulls found themselves at a precarious 4/42. Adam Hobson (31) attempted to steady the ship in the middle order, but was bowled by Boyle and the Bulls sat at 7/115.

At 9/139, they required just nine runs to secure the points, but as he did all day, Boyle struck at the key moment and Cardinia was all out for 145 – just three runs short of a win.

Boyle’s bowling display was simply superb as he and wicket-keeper Colin Parnall (five catches) combined to torment the Bulls and lead the Bullants to a gutsy win.

With last weekend heavily interrupted by rain, all other District games were turned into one-dayers.

NNG/Maryknoll stumbled early against Emerald, but opener Kallon Rigby (56) and the middle order shone to lead the Marygoons to a strong total. At 3/31, the Bombers’ bowlers were in control, but Rigby and Brannon Harrison (27) combined for a 71-run stand to get things back on track.

Further strong contributions from Kyle Dorman (31) and Daniel Salmon (26 not out) saw the Marygoons post a total of 188. Trent Rolfs (4/33) and Nathan Bownds (3/28) were impressive for the Bombers.

In response, the Bombers were unable to stay at the crease as the Marygoons bowlers got to work.

Jason Burns (36) and Mark Alenson (30) batted valiantly, but others fell around them as the Bombers were dismissed for 144. Sean Somers (3/30) was important for the Marygoons.

Clyde and Tooradin played out an exciting battle as the Cougars did just enough to defend their total. Half centuries from Gavin Adams (51) and Brett Reid (50) helped Clyde to a strong total of 8/211.

In reply, the Seagulls struggled early, but a 77-run stand between Michael Ralph (60 not out) and Tim Huguenin (27 not out) gave Tooradin a sniff. Unfortunately for the Seagulls, they ran out of overs, posting a total of 6/199 in 40 overs.

Cranbourne Meadows absolutely dominated with the bat against Carlisle Park and took home the points.

A stunning century from opener Rupinder Singh (115) anchored the innings and a near-half century from Pardeep Singh (47) helped the Rebels post a big total of 7/270.

The Vikings battled hard in response – led by David Nutting (54) and Paul Gray (44) – but the total was just too much. Ashish Uppal (3/27) bowled strongly for the Rebels as they restricted the Vikings to 6/183.

SUB-DISTRICT

In one of the more stunning and brutal innings in recent memory, Pakenham Upper/Toomuc solidified its position on top of the ladder with a dominant win over Merinda Park.

After play failed to get underway last week, the Cobras won the toss and elected to bat. They instantly regretted that decision as they found themselves at 1/1, then 2/2 and 3/3. It was a brutal start to the innings and they never recovered as Lucas Plozza delivered eight near-perfect overs which included six maidens and the finished with the figures of 3/2. Ryan De Reus (3/7) was just as brilliant.

Incredibly, six Cougars didn’t record a single run and Josh Phillips (12) was the lone batsmen to score over seven runs as they were dismissed for a measly 32 runs.
A Yabbies win was never in doubt as they reached the target in eight overs for a seven-wicket win.

All other Sub-District games commenced last week and Catani picked right up where they left off to claim a big outright win over Gembrook.

The Brookers were dismissed for just 26 in their first innings and the Cats declared at 2/117 on day one as they set up a great chance for an outright win.

After finishing day one with the Brookers needing 69 more runs to make the Cats bat again, Gembrook was outclassed by Catani. The Brookers started the day at 3/22 and were never in the hunt as Riley McDonald (3/3), Clint Fulton (2/8) and Tyler Molloy (2/14) dominated with the ball.

Only opener Daniel Tigges (13) made it to double figures as the Brookers were dismissed for 49 in their second innings as the Cats claimed the outright win.

Just 75 runs in two innings’ highlights the complete domination that the Cats bowlers enjoyed over the Brookers batsmen.

Kooweerup posted a big total of 264 last week and Pakenham was unable to make inroads with the bat as Arie Hazendonk (3/57) claimed vital wickets. The Lions had players get off to starts, but only Duane Lucas (43) was able to really find his feet.

The Demons claimed the win, dismissing the Lions for 183 in the 71st over.

Lang Lang backed up last week’s fine work to claim a dominant win over Nyora. After setting a huge total of 304 on day one, the Tigers bowlers were relentless one day two as Rajind Dassanyake (5/18) and Jospeph Dalgleish (4/37) ran riot.

The Maroons simply couldn’t get anything going as wickets fell thick and fast. Gavin Hackett (55) was the lone batsman to make a strong contribution as others fell relatively cheaply. The duo of Dassanyake and Dalgleish was too much as the Maroons could only post a total of 9/145.
