WGCA DISTRICT AND SUB-DISTRICT DIVISION
REVIEW – ROUND 5 (DAY TWO)
Nar Nar Goon/Maryknoll struggled mightily with the bat but fought back strongly with the ball against Cardinia to claim a memorable win in their District division clash. The Marygoons could only muster a total of 122, but Dean Henwood (8/37) was simply unstoppable with the ball as he led the Marygoons to victory against his former club.
Henwood was in devastating form with the ball on Saturday against some of his best mates as he took care of the top-order, middle-order and tail in stunning fashion as the Marygoons dismissed Cardinia for just 87 runs in the 34th over.
Daniel Salvato (21) top-scored for the Bulls, highlighting the trouble Cardinia had with the bat.
In an absolute nail-biter at Carlisle Park Reserve, Officer claimed a thrilling win over Carlisle Park. Last Saturday, the Vikings posted a total of 9/242 as David Nutting (98) shone bright. The Bullants’ batsmen were up to the task on Saturday though as they chased down the target with just three balls to spare.
It was tense and there was some high-quality cricket played as both teams fought hard. In the end, an incredible ton by Ash Smith (108), as well as great knocks from James Parnall (44) and Lachlan Porter (43 not out) led the Bullants home with a total of 8/243.
Clyde claimed its first win of the season, taking care of Emerald at home. After last week posting an imposing total of 6/294 as Shane Webster (186 not out) led the way, the Cougars defended their total on Saturday as Harrison Coe demolished the Bombers’ batting line-up.
Coe (6/51) delivered 12 dominant overs and was nearly unplayable for stretches. Emerald was stranded at 5/55, before a 56-run partnership between Trent Rolfs (25) and Clinton Marsh (52) steadied things slightly.
But from there, the Cougars regained the momentum and dismissed the Bombers for 131 in the 37th over. Roshan Bandara (3/9) also claimed crucial wickets.
Tooradin was valiant on day two of its encounter with Cranbourne Meadows, but was unable to keep partnerships on the pitch long enough to truly trouble the Rebels.
Cranbourne Meadows – led by Jahanzaib Athar (96) – posted a total of 257 on day one and the Seagulls were in strife early as opener Bradey Welsh was dismissed without troubling the scorers.
Despite getting strong contributions across the board, Tooradin was unable to reach the required runs as the Gulls were bowled out for 214 in the 75th over. Ben Mantel (47) and David Freeman (46) battled hard for the Seagulls, while Joraver Sidhu (3/0) needed just eight deliveries to rip through the Tooradin tail.

SUB-DISTRICT

Last week the Gazette reported that Nyora looked in a near unbeatable position against Gembrook.
Well, the Brookers were clearly in the mood to prove the doubters wrong!
After the Maroons posted a massive total of 7/357 on day one, the Brookers got straight to work on Saturday and didn’t just chase down the total, they roared past it with eight overs to spare.
The story of the round is unquestionably Geordie Scott, who played his first game of the season and produced a match-winning 155 not out. Scott, who we’re reliably told has trained just once this season, reached his ton in just 48 deliveries and finished with 155 not out off 75 balls, smashing 10 sixes and 14 fours.
His brutal innings was one of the best in recent memory and he was completely unfazed by the imposing total the team was chasing.
Whilst Scott led the way from the middle-order, Daniel Tigges (56) ensured the scoreboard kept ticking over early. Jack Burchill (36), Josh Wigg (35) and Brett Burmeister (34) were also impressive as the Brookers posted a total of 7/378 in 72 overs to stun the Maroons and claim a win for the ages.
Pakenham Upper/Toomuc didn’t have it all its own way, but did enough to defeat Catani.
Chasing 165 for victory, the Yabbies – led by John Nooy (37 not out) and John Langley (35) – reached the total with two wickets in hand. Tyler Molloy (5/35) did all he could for the Cats, but it wasn’t enough.
After posting a total of 197 last week, Pakenham bowled strongly to defend its total and claim a win against Merinda Park.
The Cobras struggled to string partnerships together as Mitch Tielen (3/17) and Sam Downes (3/40) claimed crucial wickets throughout the innings. Gagandeep Sharma (40) top-scored for Merina Park, but it wasn’t enough as the side was dismissed for 149.
Meanwhile, Lang Lang’s bowlers stood up and led the Tigers to victory against Kooweerup. After posting a total of 166 last week, Lang Lang got straight to work on day two as Rajind Dassanyake (3/24) and Joseph Dalgleish (3/53) claimed big wickets all day.
Andrew Martin (53) was the only Demon to score over 15 runs as the team was dismissed for just 130.
