The man accused of murdering Pakenham woman Carol Clay and her camping partner Russell Hill in Victoria’s high country has made moves to sue his airline employer for unfair dismissal.
Greg Lynn was sacked from his longtime job as a Jetstar pilot when he was arrested in relation to the duo’s disappearance in November.
The 55-year-old Caroline Springs man has since been charged with two counts of murder and subsequently sacked from the budget airline.
It has been reported that Mr Lynn lodged the unfair dismissal claim after he was sacked in January with two months’ pay, plus unpaid leave entitlements.
The Transport Workers Union of Australia has taken up Lynn’s cause, other media have reported.
In a letter, TWU branch secretary John Berger described Mr Lynn’s termination as “harsh, unjust and unreasonable“.
“Captain Lynn’s dismissal from employment should be considered a disproportionate response,” Mr Berger said in the letter.
“Captain Lynn has not been found guilty of any misconduct, he has advised Jetstar that he is on remand and therefore cannot attend at work.
“Captain Lynn has not been convicted of any crime and there is no prejudice to Jetstar to await the outcome of the trial.”
The matter is now before the Fair Work Commission, but no date has been listed for hearing.
