Two young Pakenham dancers have made a pledge to give their hair the chop, all in the name of a good cause.

Dance Legacy students Esher Russo and Eden Thomas have the backing of their studio to help them raise money for the Cancer Council.

Neither are nervous to undergo the massive cut their hair which be donated to make wigs for cancer paitents.

“Me and Mum were chatting about it one day and then I told Eden and she said she wanted to do it too,“ Esher, aged seven, said.

Eden, aged nine, said she wasn’t scared to cut her hair off, she’d had short hair cuts before.

“My hair grows back quickly,“ Esher added.

So far, the girls have raised over $600 in a GoFundMe, soaring above the original goal.

“Our target was $500- we have so much more! That makes me feel good,“ Esher said.

“It makes me feel fabulous,“ Eden added.

With the help of a volunteer hairdresser, the girls will chop their hair during the last week of term one at the dance studio, cheered on by their dance teacher and classmates.

Esher said she hoped people would continue to donate because they were making something for people who were sick.

“I think people should donate to be nice and so they can try and get better,“ Eden said.

Eden’s mum and Dance Legacy principal Loren Thomas said she was proud of both the girls.

“As a Mum I could not be more proud of both girls for coming up with the idea to raise money and donate their hair to help others,“ she said.

“The support they have received from our dance community as well as the wider community has been overwhelming.

“We as a studio try to give back where we can, especially to causes close to our hearts and we are excited to see the final tally!“
