Fire guts childcare centre

Police are investigating a fire at the Officer Childcare Centre which gutted the building Tuesday morning, 12 October.

Calls of a fire on the Princes Highway in Officer came into emergency services around 4.20am.

A CFA spokesperson said nine CFA units from Pakenham, Narre Warren, Officer, Beaconsfield and Bayswater brigades and FRV crews attended the scene.

They said the structure was fully engulfed upon arrival but crews were able to contain the fire to the one building.

The scene was declared safe at around 5.47am and crews remained on scene for some time to mop up.

Police said no one was injured during the incident.

The exact cause of the fire is not yet determined and police have established a crime scene, police said.
