Anyone fancy a bowl of spag-bol with a side of cheesy garlic bread?

These men of Lang Lang are being taught cooking skills like how to make a yummy spaghetti bolognese to help encourage healthier and independent living.

The ‘Blokes in the Kitchen’ program is run through the Lang Lang Community Centre, with money allocated from Cardinia Shire for ingredients and operation costs.

Community centre coordinator Marg Hambleton said it was a great opportunity for men to gather and learn new skills.

“The objective is to reach out to men to teach them how to cook by someone with experience,” she said.

“We’ve got a mixed bag in the class- widows, single men and husbands whose wives are good cooks.

“It’s not about getting a free feed. It also promoted social inclusion and healthy living.”

The class is taught by Karleen, an avid hobby cook who is excited to help build the men’s skills each month.

“It seems to be going really well and they seem to be enjoying it,” she said.
