A beloved family dog narrowly avoided death after someone allegedly sprinkled Ratsak in a Pakenham backyard on Friday 9 April.

Chantelle Nicholls-Hohmann said she was shocked to wake up Friday morning to find most of her backyard on Alapont Close covered in the poison pellets in what she believes was an attack on her dog, Billie.

“It’s so cruel,” she told the Gazette.

“Why would someone do that?”

Ms Nicholls-Hohmann, who has lived on Alapont Close for seven years, said neighbours had never had a problem with her dog.

“She does bark sometimes, but dogs bark,” she said.

Fortunately, Billie is in the clear and is happy and healthy, though the family had to wait an excruciating 48 hours to make sure.

“The vet said it’s too late to try make her vomit,” Ms Nicolls-Hohmann said on Friday.

“Ratsak thins the blood out and then they haemorrhage.

“If she doesn’t make it, I’m worried it will happen again. I don’t want my daughter waking up to find her dead.”

Pakenham Police Senior Sergeant Amanda Douglas said police were canvassing and liaising with council to establish any further avenues of inquiry.
