It’s out with the old and in with the new, as the removal of the old Cardinia Road level crossing has made way for a new multi-purpose open space area under the bridge and this weekend, it’ll be officially opened to one and all.

Residents and visitors are invited to come down and enjoy the new recreational space on Saturday 17 April between 10am and 12pm, after its grand unveiling to the public.

This community celebration will show off the fantastic new facilities available, including a half basketball court, running track, skateboarding jumps, seating and a huge artistic mural that adorns the walls underneath the bridge.

Food trucks, live music from two local singers and family friendly activities have been planned for the day, as people of all ages are welcomed to come and see the transformation for themselves.

According to a spokesperson from the Level Crossing Removal Project, there are only a “few finishing touches” left to be done before the big day on Saturday, and everyone is excited to welcome the public into this new versatile space.

Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale MP paid a visit to the project last week, along with two musicians, Matilda and Sasha, who will be performing at the opening event.

Ms Crugnale said it was fantastic to see the work that had been done so far and that she was looking forward to the opening.

Contact tracing will be in place at the event, but everyone is welcomed down to the new space on Saturday, underneath the Cardinia Road bridge just near the train station, to enjoy the new facilities on offer.
