Non-profit organisations, groups and associations in the Baw Baw Shire are set to receive $182,000 in Community Development Grants.

Funding will be divided between 35 projects across areas of sports, recreation, community groups and environment.

Successful applicants were notified at the council meeting on 10 February, with Deputy Mayor Cr Michael Leaney saying they received a high number of quality applications from various members of the community.

“This is a credit to the many volunteers across Baw Baw Shire who dedicate their time to improving community facilities, events and services, procure the equipment they need and develop exciting new initiatives,” Deputy Mayor Cr Leaney said.

Drouin has been granted funding for five projects within all three categories – environment, equipment purchases and minor capital works.

These include the Birds of Drouin and District booklet, Drouin Bowling Club: equipment for the Incredibowls and This Girl Can programs, Drouin Cricket Club: live score project, Drouin Football Club: goal nets project and Drouin Hawks Netball Club: replacement storage shed.

“Council is proud to support these community projects that will deliver immediate benefits to the groups and organisations that make Baw Baw Shire a better place,” Mayor Cr Danny Goss said.
