Six sporting clubs and organisations in the Cardinia Shire are set to bolster their coaching skills, administration expertise, or score new equipment thanks to a share in more than $900,000 from the State Government.

The grants provide clubs up to $1000 for new uniforms and equipment, up to $5000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers, and up to $5000 to improve club operational effectiveness.

Among those set to receive funding as part of the 2020/21 Sporting Club Grants Programs include Kooweerup Football Club who scored $2000 for coaches skill development and Kooweerup Netball Club that will also bank $2000 for coaches and umpire development.

Kooweerup Bowling Club will receive $1000 to purchase new uniforms for its members and Kooweerup Cricket Club will get $1000 to buy masks as part of 2020/21 season’s mandatory uniforms for participants.

Long-sleeve shirts and a first aid kit will be new and welcomed additions to Pakenham Upper Riding Club thanks to $1000 funding, while Lang Lang Football Club will take home $2000 for football volunteer coaching development and a Covid-19 support program.

“The Sporting Club Grants Program is giving grassroots sports clubs from Pakenham to Clyde through to Kooweerup to Pound Creek the support they need to grow their ranks and help more people than ever play the sports they love,” Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale said.

“Congratulations to all our local clubs in the Bass electorate.”

Community Sport Minister Ros Spence acknowledged that the recent coronavirus restrictions have had a heavy impact on community sport.

“That’s why we’re proud to provide this funding lifeline that opens up a range of opportunities on and off the field for clubs and their members,” she said.

“The Victorian Government is working hard to encourage and enable all Victorians to embrace a more active and healthy lifestyle and tap into all the sport and career pathways that grassroots community sport can provide.

“Congratulations our latest batch of grant recipients and I look forward to seeing a new generation of local champions get their chance to take their sports to a whole new level.”
