With Christmas fast approaching, Pakenham community groups have started decorating the town with festive artworks and props, in time for the holiday season.

Cardinia Arts Society has partnered with the Cardinia Ratepayers Association and Living and Learning Pakenham to display Christmas decorations in Main Street as well as Pakenham Place.

The traditional red bows have been placed around Main Street, Mr Yakkerboo has been covered in tinsel and a Christmas display has been installed in the empty show windows between Target and Toy World.

“We now have a fantastic cross section of the community all working under the one umbrella to bring some Christmas spirit to Pakenham,” Cardinia Arts Society president Jillian Ronald said.

“The window display is a unique opportunity that will not be available in the future years as the Pakenham Place will be redeveloped.

“It’s also a Covid safe way to celebrate Christmas as the display can be viewed from the street. I am excited to be able to bring something new to Pakenham.”

The special display will include decorated Christmas trees and Christmas displays, such as a traditional white snowy scene and an Aussie beach scene.

Community groups, local shops and the library have been invited to participate.

Groups involved include the Country Women’s Association, Art Society, Agricultural Show, Rotary Club, Pakenham Scouts, Pakenham Inner Wheel, Pakenham Opportunity Shop, Indian Australian Community Cooperative and Cardinia Men’s Shed.

Cardinia Shire Council has provided a small grant to help facilitate the project.
