A walker discovered a number of metal nails sticking out of a boardwalk in Pakenham recently.

Fallingwaters Estate resident, Brijal Parikh, noticed the hazardous nails poking out of a boardwalk along the walking track at PB Ronald Reserve park.

Fearing for the public’s safety, Mr Parikh raised his concerns with the council on Friday 10 July.

“I believe a protruding nail head may barely be visible – it poses a tripping hazard and a danger to bare feet,” he said.

“A lot of kids run around that walking track and if they have a fall, the nail might cause injury to them.

“The thought of an injury made me raise the concern. It is better to fix the problem rather than to wait for an incident to occur.”

Cardinia Shire Council councillor Michael Schilling responded to Mr Parikh’s request that same day.

Just two days later, the nails were made safe and the issue was resolved.

“Personally, I would like to thank Cr Michael Schilling for his prompt response and assistance,” Mr Parikh added.

“He kept me updated on the progress on my concerns as well as got the issue fixed.”
