Victorian police have issued more than 60 fines in the past 24 hours to residents who refuse to abide with the ‘stay at home’ directions.

A total of 61 infringements were issued to individuals for breaching the Chief Health officer directions, building on 73 from the day before.

Police stopped 20,246 vehicles at checkpoints on main arterial roads, issuing 19 residents with fines for breaching the restrictions.

Nearly 5000 spot checks on people at homes, businesses and public places were conducted by police across the state – bringing the total number of checks since 21 March to 142, 545.

Some of the fines included multiple people attending a party in Monash, a group of people sitting on a park bench drinking alcohol in the city and a person travelling from Strathmore to the Surf Coast for a surfing trip.
