A lead-footed P-plate driver has been nabbed travelling more than 60 kilometres over the speed limit in Pakenham.

The driver behind the wheel of the Holden Commodore was flying down the Princes Freeway just before 9pm on Saturday 4 July in the pouring rain.

Thankfully, officers from the Cardinia Highway Patrol were conducting laser duties at the time and managed to catch the alleged culprit in the act.

He was caught travelling at a “whopping” 162 kilometres per hour within a 100 kilometre zone.

The 21-year-old man was immediately intercepted without incident and was given a stern talking to.

His bright blue Commodore was impounded as a result and the man will be forced to front court to explain his actions.
