Pakenham Produce and Saddlery has been supplying the region’s pet, livestock and animal needs for more than four decades – and not even Covid-19 could slow them down.

While the cancellation of events like Farmworld meant that Pakenham Produce staff were unable to get out and about in the community, Pakenham Produce rode the momentum of the hobby boom as customers turned to long-neglected projects on their to-do lists.

“We sold a lot of fence paint!” says manager Bree Ure.

“People are doing more maintenance around the farm now.”

They also saw an increase in people looking to purchase supplies for new chickens and for their veggie gardens as the self-sustainability craze took off.

The warehouse on Bormar Drive is adhering to Covid-19 physical distancing requirements, with 1.5 metre separation required, regular cleaning and disinfecting, and lots of hand sanitiser available.

Customers can now try on clothing again too with changerooms back open.

Staff welcome customers both old and new to head in store and view the massive range.

“We pride ourselves on being a one-stop-shop for farm and pets,” Bree says.

The store stocks everything for animals, from birds to alpacas, horses to cats – all with a dose of old-fashioned, friendly customer service.

For those who are unable to pick up their items, Pakenham Produce and Saddlery offers free local delivery within five kilometres of the shop – a service that has been particularly popular during the pandemic.

The shop can deliver as far as Warragul, Phillip Island, Yellingbo, Macclesfield, Narre Warren and Harkaway. Delivery is free for purchases over $100.
