A Berwick woman has been charged with murder over the death of Karen Leek in Devon Meadows last month.

Detectives from Victoria Police’s Homicide Squad arrested the 25-year-old and subsequently interviewed her on Thursday 4 June.

She has been charged with one count of murder and will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court shortly.

The charge follows an incident where the body of 69-year-old Ms Leek was located at her property on Cross Road about 10am on Tuesday, 26 May.

Police said the renowned greyhound trainer died in a “very violent crime”.

Sandown Park racing and media manager, Mick Floyd, said Ms Leek was a “popular figure” and “had a real passion” for greyhound racing.

“I never heard a bad word about her,” he said.

“She was always up for a chat – she was always quite friendly and pleasant.”
